To the students and parents:
We are excited about the 2009/2010 school year in the Leflore County School District. As we begin this school year with renewed commitments, let us remain academically focused and ready to face the challenges that are before us.
Our beliefs are embedded in the following:
- All children can learn.
- All individuals are lifelong learners.
- Individuals learn in different ways and at different rates.
- Learning occurs everywhere and is a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, truth, and wisdom.
- Individuals learn best when actively engaged in the learning process.
- Excellence requires hard work.
- High expectations yield high results.
- Education is the shared responsibility of the student, home, school, and the entire community.
- Each person bears responsibility for the well-being of society and the quality of the environment.
- Ethical conduct is essential for a successful school district.
- High quality public education directly benefits the entire community and is essential for a democratic society.
Our Vision continues to be "Engaging Every Learner to Improve Student Achievement." The commitment of the administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and other stakeholders is essential in reaching our goals:
- to improve student achievement
- to decrease the dropout rate
- to increase the graduation rate
- to increase parental involvement
To achieve these goals, we pledge to:
- Increase the comfort level of parents as they enter the school environment
- Increase parents' knowledge of state and local academic and behavior requirements
- Encourage parents to assist their children in completing academic projects
- Encourage parents to be supportive of their children's education by creating a positive learning environment at home
Again, welcome to the Leflore County School District where we are striving for academic excellence.
Thank you,
Jean Hall, Superintendent
